The seminar “The current legal status and practice of online dispute resolution in arbitration, mediation” was attended by representatives of the Institute of Legal Science, representatives of the Department of Justice, and many experts in the field of online arbitration, online mediation, and e-commerce.

Throughout the seminar, experts discussed enthusiastically the mechanism for resolving commercial disputes by online arbitration and mediation as well as difficulties and obstacles to its development. Four basic factors are given: culture, economy, institution and technique.

The advantages and potential of the development of online dispute resolution now and in the future are indisputable. However, how this method works; whether it is necessary to amend and supplement relevant legal documents or what really needs to be changed is the perception of businesses, law practitioners, and state agencies. These are all open questions that demand more research into the world’s experience as well as Vietnam’s practical application to give the most appropriate answer.
Hopefully, with the unremitting efforts of state agencies, arbitration centers, mediation centers, dispute resolution methods as online arbitration, mediation will have a better opportunity to develop in the near future.
