Chairman of VICMC presented at the Consultative Workshop Guidelines on VLA Grassroots Mediation Model

On September 17, 2020, the Consultative Workshop Guidelines on VLA Grassroots Mediation Model took place with the participation of members of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, representatives of UNDP and independent experts on mediation in Vietnam.

The workshop is under the framework of the cooperation between the Vietnam Lawyers Association and the United Nations Development Programme in Vietnam (UNDP) under the Justice and Legal Empowerment Programme funded by the EU (EU JULE). Lawyer Nguyen Hung Quang – Chairman of Vietnam International Commercial Mediation Center (VICMC) and Professor Peter Don C. – University of Florida jointly wrote a guiding document on the grassroots mediation model of the Vietnam Lawyers Association.

The consultative workshop began with the introduction of the main content of the Guidelines on VLA Grassroots Mediation Model presented by Lawyer Nguyen Hung Quang. After that, experts from many provinces throughout the country have actively commented on the grassroots mediation model in Vietnam so that the research team can edit and improve the guiding document better.

Grassroots mediation is a mechanism to resolve small disputes and conflicts that arise in daily life in the community. Currently, grassroots mediation is highly appreciated for its quick conflict resolution, relationship retention, cost-saving and confidentiality of information. Participating in the research on the grassroots mediation model of the Vietnam Lawyers Association, VICMC wants to bring professionalism into grassroots mediation through modern mediation methods and principles to promote its development and overcome difficulties and challenges faced by grassroot mediation teams and mediators.

It can be seen that mediation in general and out-of-court mediation in particular has attracted more attention and strongly developed. Besides commercial mediation activities, VICMC always shows its responsibility to the community and tries to support mediation research activities to contribute to the development of mediation in Vietnam. Hopefully in the future, through the above programs and researches, grassroots mediation will continue to achieve more success and enhance the influence of mediation in Vietnam.
