In two days, December 26 and 27, 2020, Vietnam International Commercial Mediation Center – VICMC hosted a training course on dispute resolution skills by mediation in Hanoi. Participants who are lawyers, legal experts, lecturers, etc. have come together to learn about the principles and methods of mediation as well as listen to mediators share their experiences and how to apply mediation skills not only in mediation but also in work and life.
In addition to lively discussions, students had the opportunity to practice mediation in the role of mediators, lawyers, and parties to a dispute. Each session of mediation is played with different emotions: there is “very real” anger on the part of the parties to the dispute; HGV’s gentle composure; the tension, suspense when negotiating the lawyer, …
Each practice group is observed and supported by experts who are experienced mediators of VICMC and has timely comments and suggestions. Many students shared that after the first practice session, there were still many doubts and tremors, but the next time, they felt more confident in the role of mediators or lawyers participating in the mediation.
At the end of two training courses on dispute resolution skills in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, VICMC hopes to have brought students interesting experiences and new knowledge and skills on mediation, contributing to development of this method of dispute settlement in Vietnam.
