During April and May 2026, Lawyer & Mediator Nguyễn Hưng Quang – President of the Vietnam International Commercial Mediation Center (VICMC) – participated in teaching and sharing practical insights in the course “International Commercial Negotiation & Mediation” for high-quality program students majoring in International Business Law at Foreign Trade University.
The entire course was conducted fully in English, providing students with an international learning environment and opportunities to directly approach the mindset, skills, and professional practice involved in international commercial dispute resolution.
📌 In the module on International Commercial Negotiation, Mr. Nguyễn Hưng Quang shared key topics including:
• Definitions and types of negotiation;
• Negotiation structure and dynamics, with particular focus on BATNA and ZOPA;
• Steps in preparing for negotiation;
• Essential negotiation skills;
• Decision-making on negotiation outcomes and implementation;
• Application of negotiation skills through practical case studies.
📌 Regarding Commercial Mediation, students were introduced to:
• The mediation process;
• The roles and skills of mediators;
• The role of lawyers in mediation;
• Career orientation for lawyers participating in mediation.
Throughout the course, Mr. Nguyễn Hưng Quang also incorporated valuable practical experiences from his professional practice as a lawyer handling disputes involving foreign clients, as well as real-life experiences serving as a mediator at VICMC. These practical perspectives enabled students to better understand the application of negotiation and mediation in today’s international business environment.
✨ Particularly, after each skills-based session, students were divided into groups to engage in practical simulations based on various real-world scenarios. From business negotiations and contract disputes to mock mediation sessions, students not only “learned” the theories but also directly “experienced” the roles of lawyers, clients, and mediators in specific contexts.
Through this program, VICMC hopes to further bridge legal education with professional practice, while promoting the values of negotiation and mediation as modern, effective, and sustainable methods of dispute resolution in the international business arena.
🤝 VICMC believes that stronger collaboration between professional organizations and educational institutions will continue to create valuable opportunities for law students to develop global thinking, practical skills, and clearer career orientations for the future.
